Cockroach Control

gtag(‘event’, ‘conversion’, {‘send_to’: ‘AW-406132675/0GI7CO-SqvoBEMOv1MEB’});

The Key To Physical and Economic Health

Cockroaches are among the most resilient pests on the planet, thriving in diverse environments around the world, obviously including the Lowcountry. Unfortunately, their presence can lead to a variety of serious problems, impacting both human health and the integrity of our living spaces.

One of the most significant issues posed by cockroaches is the fact that they carry a host of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and parasites, that can cause illnesses in humans. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has linked cockroaches to the transmission of diseases such as Salmonella and E. coli, which can lead to severe gastrointestinal distress. Their droppings, saliva, and shed body parts can trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks, particularly in children and individuals with preexisting respiratory conditions.

In residential settings, cockroaches can create an unsanitary environment. They are scavengers and typically thrive in dirty, cluttered areas where food debris and waste are present. Their habitual feeding on organic matter means that kitchens, pantries, and bathrooms are prime targets for infestations. Not only does this contribute to foul odors, but the accumulation of bacteria from cockroach feces can contaminate surfaces and food, posing further health risks.

Additionally, the presence of cockroaches can lead to significant emotional distress for residents. The mere sight of these pests can provoke anxiety, panic, and disgust. This psychological impact can be particularly pronounced in individuals who have a phobia of insects, making it challenging for them to feel comfortable in their own homes. Consequently, infestations can lead to increased levels of stress and reduced quality of life.

Moreover, cockroaches reproduce at an alarming rate, with a single female able to produce dozens of offspring over her lifetime. This rapid reproductive capacity can lead to large infestations that are challenging to control. DIY methods often prove ineffective, necessitating pest control services by trained professionals using proven and effective techniques.

In conclusion, the problems generated by cockroaches are multifaceted, ranging from health risks and unsanitary conditions to psychological stress and economic burdens. Addressing these issues requires a proactive approach to cleanliness and regular pest control measures to keep these resilient pests at bay.

The Canvas of Home

A couple’s dream of an art-filled oceanfront home is brought to life through modern design and neutral palettes, creating the perfect backdrop for a postmodern art collection.

North Foest Beach’s newest oceanfront home used a love of art to guide the design. Over the past few decades, its owners have mentally cataloged art viewed during their travels, from Las Vegas to Paris. As sculptures by Richard Orlinski, pop art by Lichtenstein and Warhol, and drawings by Picasso were admired in hotels and museums, the future homeowners said, “Someday.” Someday, they knew they would build their dream house filled with works of art.

When planning the art-filled home, a proper backdrop needed to be created. Parker Design Group developed a modern, sophisticated architectural design scheme, and Hammerhead Custom Builders implemented the vision. Open layouts on each of the three stories form a gallery-like atmosphere while at the same time providing comfortable entertaining and retreat areas. Surfaces were purposefully curated to remain neutral: paint throughout is the same color, finished materials use texture and sheen instead of bold color to create interest, and furnishings employ clean and simple lines. For areas with less artwork, selections were chosen for visual impact such as suspended granite counters, backlit mirrors, and a wall of hanging wine with specialty illumination.

A neutral palette provides the perfect backdrop for works of art. Artists featured in the home include Andy Warhol (top), Picasso (above), Scabetti Shoal and Richard Orlinski (opposite page).

This light fixture by Scabetti Shoal (above) perfectly compliments the home which is designed to capture peaceful ocean views.

Sightlines were also considered as pertaining to the intended collection. Floating treads, glass railings, and a glass elevator provide multi-level glimpses of sculptures and paintings through the stairwell. Dramatic light fixtures provide creative interest, acting as art in the center of the expansive rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows and doors offer an entire oceanscape tableau on the beachside walls. Art can be seen from every angle through the architecture, views out a wall of glass, a two-sided accordion illusion, or an eight-foot-tall resin gorilla.

By utilizing modern design, a neutral palette, and specific selections, a canvas for a new collection of fine artwork was made possible. The homeowners of this contemporary abode have now dived deep into acquiring postmodern creations. The world of art dealing was a new and exciting adventure to take on. A broker out of Florida handled finding and shipping optimal pieces to fit the client’s needs. Overall, the collection focuses on mid-century to current creations. Through intentional design and planning, the artistic dream of someday has become a reality of today.

The home incorporates both functional works of art such as light fixtures, and display pieces by artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Peter Max (top), Keith Haring (above), and Romero Britto (left).

Want to Attract Buyers and Maximize Your Home’s Value? Start With These Smart Updates

Thinking about moving? Whether you’re ready to list your home or just starting to plan your next move, one thing is certain: presenting your current home in its best light is key to getting top dollar.

Working with an experienced Realtor can help you identify the best strategies to boost your home’s appeal — and it often starts with a few smart, valuedriven updates. Here are four impactful ways to make your home more marketable before it hits the market:

REFRESH WITH A CLEAN PAINT PALETTE

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to transform a space is with a fresh coat of paint. Light, neutral tones like soft taupe, creamy beige, or warm grays instantly make a room feel brighter and more inviting. Plus, a neutral backdrop helps potential buyers visualize their own style in the space — a major selling point.

UPGRADE COUNTERTOPS AND LIGHTING

You don’t need a full renovation to give your home a modern touch. Swapping out outdated countertops and light fixtures can create an instant wow factor. Stick to clean, timeless finishes like quartz, brushed nickel, or matte black to appeal to a wide range of tastes.

FOCUS ON HIGH-IMPACT SPACES

Kitchens and bathrooms often make or break a sale. If a complete remodel isn’t in the cards, consider budget-friendly updates like replacing cabinet hardware, refinishing surfaces, or adding fresh grout. These minor improvements can refresh the space and help you recoup your investment.

STAY CURRENT WITH DESIGN TRENDS

Buyers are paying attention to what’s in style — both online and during in-person showings. Simple changes like incorporating modern finishes, swapping dated décor, or adding curated staging touches can make your home stand out in a competitive market. A Realtor with local market expertise can help you tailor these updates to what buyers are looking for right now.

GET EXPERT GUIDANCE FOR A SEAMLESS SALE

Preparing your home to sell doesn’t have to be overwhelming — especially with a trusted real estate professional by your side. A knowledgeable Realtor can help you identify which improvements offer the best return, connect you with reliable contractors, and guide you through every step of the selling process.
